Labor market: Ukrainian refugees welcome – salzburg.ORF.at
Business
The demand for Ukrainian workers is still very high. A large proportion of the people who have found refuge in Salzburg want and are allowed to work here. More than a fifth of employable refugees are already working in Salzburg. German courses run parallel to this.
270 companies have already registered with the AMS because they want to hire refugees, says AMS Managing Director Jacqueline Beyer: “Once again, the interest is greater than the potential. But I am confident that we will accommodate more people.”
Lots of academics
Integration is often difficult for academics from Ukraine. Here, the recognition of training often takes a long time, says Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP): “The proportion with high school education and studies is relatively high, i.e. almost half. Of course, most of them are only suitable for auxiliary work, for example in tourism – because of the language barrier.”
Land prepared for more waves
Up to 30 people from the Ukraine are still coming to Salzburg every day. The state expects that up to 15 percent of the 3,350 refugees who are currently registered in Salzburg will also want to stay and work here. However, there could also be further waves of refugees, says coordinator Reinhold Mayer: “If the Donbass really came under Russian control, then the whole fighting would expand to the south around Odessa.”
Be prepared for this, there are a thousand vacancies in emergency quarters, which could be increased at any time. A new Caritas quarter for basic services is also planned.
