Slovakia is interested in health professionals from Ukraine. The goal is to make us work permanently, says Heger
Slovakia is interested in doctors and nurses from Ukraine. Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO) confirmed this on Sunday on the social network.
He reminded that Slovakia has a shortage of doctors and nurses. “However, training a doctor takes years and this problem is not solvable from evening to morning. That is why I am glad that the new legislative changes to close health professionals from Ukraine to find a job. It is in our interest to work permanently in Slovakia,” he said. Heger.
During the working trip on Friday, May 27, he visited the Hospital with the polyclinic of St. Jakub in Bardejov, where 15 doctors from Ukraine work. Most of them have been serving there for several years and, according to the premiere, they have adapted very well in our country thanks to the kinship of the language and culture.
The government office informed that after the Russian aggression on Ukraine, a number of doctors and paramedics there found refuge in Slovakia. However, you can perform medical or healthcare practice in Slovakia only after fulfilling several conditions.
“It is very important to us that doctors and medics from Ukraine can start treating patients, thus helping to reduce the number of medical staff in our hospitals. At the same time, we want it to be permanent in Slovakia,” said Heger.
For this reason, several measures were taken before the start of the war to facilitate the access of medical personnel from abroad to the Slovak labor market. A ten-week professional language training course is a measure that will help speed up the adaptation of medical staff from Ukraine in Slovak facilities.
