Finland won the Canadian overtime 4-3 and won the World Hockey Championship NanaimoNewsNOW
Manninen’s winner was born in the power game six minutes after the extra frame when Thomas Chabot whistled in the hook minor.
With a 4-3 lead, Manninen managed to slip into the right circle with all Canadian gazes towards Granlund, who held the puck at the left point. Realizing this, Granlund fired a quick pass to the unmarked Manninen, who unleashed a howitzer disposable world championship.
This is the fourth time that Finland has won the world championship.
This was the third time in so many word championships that these two nations have faced in a gold medal game.
Finland won in 2019, then Canada retaliated in 2021, and now followed the Finnish title back. The 2020 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Finns were also the winners of the 2022 Olympics already in February.
Canada led 1-0 in the third round after Cozens opened the goal in a Canadian power game four minutes from the second round.
Granlund, who plays for the NHL’s Nashville Predators, equalized at the start of the third round with a five-to-three lead with Canadian Noah Gregor (stumbling) and Cole Sillinger (high-stick) sitting in the box.
Canadian goalkeeper Chris Driedger was injured in the game and was replaced by substitute Matt Tomkins, who quickly handed the second power game goal to Backlund.
Earlier on Sunday, the Czech Republic won the bronze medal for the United States 8-4 when David Pastrnak made the hat trick, all in the third round.
