ICE Hockey League: Salzburg brings Capitals goalie David Kickert – winter sports – ice hockey
David Kickert finds a new home.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper is leaving the Vienna Capitals after just one year and moving to EC Red Bull Salzburg within the win2day ICE Hockey League. After the Caps, VSV and Black Wings Linz, the Austrian national goalkeeper has now signed with the fourth club in the domestic league.
David Kickert grew up in the offspring of the Vienna Capitals and celebrated the EBEL championship title with the Viennese in the 2016/17 season.
This was followed by three years with the Black Wings Linz and a short trip to the DEL to the Augsburger Panthers before he returned to the Vienna Capitals last season, who were eliminated by the “Bulls” in the semi-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Kickert: step “to Salzburg for development the best”
Kickert says of his move: “I was very happy when the opportunity arose to go to Salzburg. I already know many players in the Red Bulls team and have also written a lot with the goalkeeping coach Markus Kerschbaumer.”
“These are all guys I would like to work with. There is nothing better in terms of organization and I am convinced that the move to Salzburg is the best for my development,” the goalkeeper is quoted as saying.
Salzburg coach Matt McIlvane says: “David Kickert completes our goalkeeper duo. Together with Atte (note: Tolvanen) this is a very strong goalie team for next season. We’re very happy to have David as an Austrian top goalie who, among other things, has experience from the national team and who also played well against us in the league playoffs. We look forward to having him on our team.”
In the last two weeks, Kickert played with Austria at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland, where he played a large part in staying up.
