Ice Hockey World Cup: American points loss in Norway’s group – the Swedes won the summit
After two matches, the World Cup host Finland tops the group Norway is part of. They have six points, and the Swedes follow right behind with the same number.
The USA could have done the same, but on Sunday an American point unexpectedly disappeared in the victory over Austria. Luke Hughes ruled in “sudden death”. Before that, Kieffer Bellows and Adam Gaudette had equalized to 2-2 in Tampere.
Austria led surprisingly with a goal after just under 35 minutes of play.
Later in the evening, there was Swedish cheering in the big meeting with the Czech Republic. Three goals in six minutes in the middle period helped to lift “Tre Kronor” to a 5-3 victory.
Norway had to settle for victory on penalties when Great Britain was beaten 4-3 in the early game. Petter Thoresen’s team led 3-0, but the lead slipped at the end of the third period. Two points is the Norwegian result so far.
In group A, Switzerland and Canada are at the top of the table with a full pot. The Swiss defeated Denmark 6-0 on Sunday night.
