Agricultural – Munich – Minister of Forestry: No more decommissioning of forests – Bavaria
Munich (dpa / lby) – Bavaria’s Forest Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) is in favor of active management of German forests. “We cannot afford to slow down the most environmentally and climate-friendly of all raw materials – domestic wood – by constantly restricting the use of our forests,” said the politician on Sunday with a view to the conference of agriculture ministers of the federal and state governments. This puts the focus on the forest on Monday.
Further deforestation must be avoided, Kaniber said. “We urgently need a rethink here.” In addition, the federal government had to get the timber construction initiative under way as agreed in the coalition agreement. “Our forests are the most important climate reservoir that we have. But the positive climate effect is again far greater if we not only let the trees grow, but also consistently continue to use the constantly growing wood from the forests.”
A climate-proof conversion of the forests and the afforestation of bare areas are mammoth tasks for decades, said Kaniber. The forest owners in Germany therefore need reliable financial aid.
