News | Marseille: 50th day of strike for cleaning employees at ARS
The seven employees of the private company Laser, in charge of cleaning at the headquarters of the regional health agency (ARS), met once again yesterday on boulevard de Paris (2nd) to defend their working conditions and mark their 50th day of strike. Supported by various trade unions and part of the staff of the ARS, the seven striking employees are protesting against the transfers of two staff and the work overload they induce. Claims that remain unanswered by the management of Laser.
“We were received on May 5 and 9 for individual interviews, explains Hamid Tazi, team leader and CNT union representative. But our demands were not even mentioned. We simply served layoffs on two of us…“The unblocking of the situation could come from the union of public purchasing groups (Ugap)”given formal notice by the ARS to terminate the contract with Laser“, according to Camille El Mhamdi, lawyer for the CNT union. A response is expected on this point on May 18. In the meantime, a strike fund, donations from ARS employees and the sale of tote bags (in bookstores The Thousand-Headed Hydra and Transit in particular) allow striking employees to “hold out”.
