New Lisbon cultural center dedicated to Portuguese-speaking artists
Next Wednesday, the 18th, Talante opens to the public, a new Lisbon cultural center aimed at Portuguese-speaking artists. An unprecedented exhibition by Ferreira Gullar will open the space.
It is called Espaço Talante and intends to be a house of Portuguese language culture. The opening of the doors already takes place on the 18th of May, Wednesday, with the aim of bringing together different artistic manifestations from Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, São Tomé, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Mozambique.
Inserted in the Ler Devagar bookstore, at the LX Factory, the space will be inaugurated with the exhibition “Poet’s Object and Artists’ Book”, by Ferreira Gullar. The curatorship of the cultural center is by Antonio Grassi and Ciça Castello.
“Ler Devagar is the main cultural point of LX Factory. By joining Ler Devagar, we want to build a place where we have programming that deals with other languages, with a greater focus on the Portuguese language”, explains actor Antonio Grassi, who was the CEO of Instituto Inhotim, one of the most cult spaces in Brazil, until the beginning of 2022, when he moved to Lisbon.
Grassi’s connection with the LX Factory dates back. In 2012, he was the Brazilian Commissioner of the Year of Brazil in Portugal. The celebration left as a legacy an event area decorated with a work by the artist from Pernambuco, Derlon.
“It’s great to return to the LX Factory, ten years later, and see an area where we organize Espaço Brasil preserved, the way we built it. We received it as a manifestation of appreciation and affection from the Portuguese for what we did there”, says Grassi, Known by the public more than 30 works as an actor on TV, among them, the soap operas “Chocolate com Pimenta” and “Força de um Desejo”.
Espaço Talante’s programming will be varied and the intention of its curators is to fill the entire day with events of different formats. Among the initiatives are conversation cycles, book readings, concerts, plays, fado nights or poetry soirees.
The choice of the opening exhibition takes into account the universal importance of Ferreira Gullar and the unprecedented character in Portugal.
“In addition to the great history as a literary, Ferreira Gullar had production as an author, and is not always known as plastic. , the other side of a great artist”, adds Antonio Grassi.
With the “Poet’s Object and Artists’ Book”, the exhibition seeks different aspects of the author from Maranhão, who died in 2016. The exhibition will be open until June 18th.
