Innsbruck: building blocks for sustainable living
social
For the past two years, the city of Innsbruck has been offering tenants of municipal apartments moving-in support in the form of workshops. In addition to tips on resource- and cost-saving living, cohesion in the residential complex should also be emphasized.
The so-called “moving-in escort XL” (EXL) was offered to a total of 118 parties for the first time in the summer of 2020 in the “Am Park” residential complex on Andechsstraße. In workshops, shortly before or during moving in, the tenants ask for tips on waste separation and waste avoidance, growing vegetables on the balcony, energy-saving living and gentle mobility.
More together, less vandalism
Another important aspect was getting to know the other residents, according to the city. Initial experiences have shown that this has resulted in more neighborly help, less vandalism and lower costs for property management. The project was awarded the ÖGUT Environment Prize 2020.
The next “movement escort XL” followed in the Pradl-Ost residential complex and was open to around 150 parties, but due to the corona there were online workshops in addition to walks in the district. The next urban residential complex where move-in assistance is offered is the residential complex on the Campagne site, where more than 300 parties will live.
City council to vote next week
Now the previous experiences from the move-in support from the Social Work course at the MCI are to be scientifically evaluated. With the “Construction Kit for Resource-Saving Living” (BAREWO), the aim is to develop a system that will support tenants when they move into their new apartment and make the work of property management easier. This will be voted on at the next council meeting.
The projected total costs would be 146,000 euros, 60 percent of the costs would be borne by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). Salzburg and Graz are also involved in the overarching project, which is funded with a total of 500,000 euros.
