After Andreas Ulmer, goalie Alexander Walke is the longest-serving player at FC Red Bull Salzburg. The 38-year-old has been in action for the series champion since 2010, with a six-month break at Greuther Fürth. Walke has now decided to extend his expiring contract by another year. “I’m really looking forward to another year with FC Red Bull Salzburg. Having been at the club for so many years, I’ve also experienced a lot and I still enjoy it a lot,” said Walke in a Salzburg broadcast.
So far, Walke has played 227 competitive games for the “Bulls” and won a total of 19 titles. In addition, starting in the 2015/16 season, he was voted the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga three times in a row. Sports director Christoph Freund knows how important the veteran still is for Salzburg: “The position of the third goalie is something special for us because of the young goalkeepers that we also have in the squad and Alex fills it in super and wisely, with his great ambition in every single training session and his experience, he supports his young goalkeeper colleagues really well.”
Walke is also looking forward to the upcoming tasks with his young goalkeeper colleagues: “Meanwhile I have a completely different role than I did a few years ago, and I know that my leadership role for the young players, especially for the young goalkeepers, is an important building block. That will be my focus again next season.”
