Theater continues to depend on funding
Culture
The Schauspielhaus Salzburg presented a balanced budget for the past year. However, this was only possible with CoV subsidies and additional subsidies from the city and state.
The city and state of Salzburg each funded EUR 100,000 this year in addition to the budget of the Salzburger Schauspielhaus. That is around ten percent more than in normal years. There was also support from short-time work, investment subsidies and other CoV aid payments. All in all, this results in a total budget of around three million euros. is usually covered to about a third from ticket sales. However, these have fallen by 70 percent in the previous year.
Previous year: ticket sales collapsed by 70 percent
The current year is now under better omens, but there is still a need for support, says Christine Seitz, Head of Administration at the Schauspielhaus: “Of course we can already see that we have already had massive slumps in ticket sales in the past few months. The problem we have is that we sometimes cannot play in the ensemble due to illness. That means we & still cancel performances on a large scale – but then there are no special funding opportunities that you can simply apply for.” The program for the next season was also presented on Friday: 13 productions are planned from September 2022.
