Sweden’s Eurovision singer Cornelia Jakobs has an unlikely connection to Cheryl from L’oreal’s previous commercial
Cheryl has an unlikely past with one of the forerunners of this year’s Eurovision crown and everything has to do with her famous L’oreal commercial.
One of the most talked about acts from Eurovision semifinal 2 was Swedish Cornelia Jakobs, who advanced to Saturday’s Eurovision final. together with Serbia’s contribution Konstrakta who sang about Meghan Markle, together with other qualifiers such as Poland, Romania and Australia. Cornelia’s song Hold Me Closer has been a fan favorite from the beginning of this year, as soon as she played it in the semifinals of the Melodifestivalen and bookies have her in the top 5 of the odds that go to the final.
But while she stands alone on stage for Eurovision 2022, Cornelia has not always been a solo act. She actually has a Eurovision past with Love Generation, a girl group she used to be part of. The band tried without success to represent Sweden in Eurovision both 2012 and 2013, with the songs Dance Alone and Just A Little Bit respectively.

After Love Generation was dissolved, Cornelia was not done with pop music and the former duo Stockholm Syndrome. And that’s where Cheryl comes in, because, even though Stockholm Syndrome had a fairly short-lived career, only released a few singles, one of them, Pretty Girl, was the soundtrack to the Girls Aloud star’s L’oreal 2014 advertising campaign.
Cheryl was full of sass and attitude in the ad for the hair brand Feria Hair Color. like the song, with lyrics like “So you think I’m a beautiful girl? Beautiful girls do not rule this world,” flared in the background.
Eurovision’s final driving order was revealed early on Friday GMT and Cornelia was confirmed to sing the 20th of 25 acts. Britain’s Sam Ryder is in 22nd place, with the job of opening the show that falls on the shoulders of the Czech Republic’s We Are Domi.
Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra is still the favorites to win the 2022 title, with Italy, Spain and Serbia also in the mix, along with Cornelia and SAm.
