Sweden simplifies administrative procedures for Ukrainian refugees – EURACTIV.com
The Swedish government wants to make it easier for refugees from Ukraine to start working in Sweden by streamlining their administrative processes, Minister of Integration and Migration Anders Ygeman announced at a press conference on Thursday.
The Swedish government will soon allow the Swedish Migration Agency to issue a coordination number (coordination number) to Ukrainian refugees who have been granted a residence permit with temporary protection. A coordination number is an identification code for people who are not or have not been registered in Sweden but who still need to interact with their authorities.
– The people do not have to go to the Tax Agency themselves and make an application, Ygeman said during a press conference on Thursday (May 12).
The Swedish government aims to make it easier for Ukrainians who have applied for protection in Sweden to find work and receive an income. It should also facilitate contact with healthcare and schools.
“The proposal is intended to enter into force as soon as possible,” said Ygeman.
The government will also have the Swedish Migration Agency analyze the need for measures to support Ukrainians who want to move back to their home country. The intention is that the mission will be part of a future plan for Ukraine’s return and reconstruction.
“Sweden will support the Ukrainians who want to return to their homeland, and we will be active in Ukraine’s reconstruction,” said Ygeman.
To date, 36,000 Ukrainians have applied for protection in Sweden and the Swedish Migration Board has granted 32,400 permits.
“We have largely followed our main scenario with 80,000 Ukrainians seeking protection this year,” says the Swedish Migration Agency’s director general Mikael Ribbenvik.
However, the number of asylum seekers has decreased slightly in the past week, according to Ribbenvik.
