Porto Moniz supports the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal — DNOTICIAS.PT
The Porto Moniz City Council this Friday, March 13, an initiative to honor peace, through the placement of flowers next to the promotion of Vila de Maio Moniz, by the elderly population, accompanied by a prayer offered by the local parish priest .
‘Uma Flor pela Paz’ was the name given by the Portomoniz municipality to the initiative, integrated in the festivities of the Flower Festival, which took place on the same day that the Feast of Our Lady of Fátima is celebrated around the world, in memory of of his first evaluation of the little shepherds in the hills of Iria, in 1917.
The initiative by the municipality that integrated the Movement of Municipalities for Peace, still as an initiative, aims to designate support for the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal.
According to Emanuel Câmara, mayor, the intention by “the municipality, representing the population of Porto Moniz, to help with the symbolic value of 1 euro per citizen, a value that totals the sum of 2,521 euros, intended for the purchase, from the city council, of essential goods for families who were forced to leave Ukraine due to the war”.
Valentina Karpina, representing the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, was emotionally grateful for the support given by the municipality, which is very important in helping those who left their country.
The schedule of events related to the Flower Festival, in Porto Moniz, ends on the 23rd, with the initiative ‘Minha Terra, Meu Jardim’, in which children from Pre-School and 1st Cycle of Basic and Secondary Schools with Pre-Escola and Creche do Porto Moniz will collaborate in the decoration of the garden located at the entrance of Vila do Porto Moniz.
