Alexander Walke extends again at Red Bull Salzburg
Alexander Walke will remain a FC Red Bull Salzburg player. The 38-year-old German has signed a contract for a further year and is entering his thirteenth season with the Red Bulls.
Alexander Walke has been a goalkeeper for series champions Red Bull Salzburg since 2010 – with a short break of six months at Greuther Fürth. During this time, the German, who also trains with the young goalkeepers at the Red Bull Football Academy, made 227 competitive appearances and won a total of 19 titles (10x Austrian champions, 9x Austrian Cup winners). “Atze” was voted “Best Goalkeeper of the Season” in the Bundesliga three times (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18).
“I’m really looking forward to another year at FC Red Bull Salzburg. Having been at the club for so many years, I’ve also experienced a lot and I still enjoy it a lot. Now I have a completely different role than before a few years and I know that my leadership role for the young players, especially for the young goalkeepers, is an important building block. That will be my focus again next season,” Walke said in a broadcast.
Sports director Christoph Freund also said: “The position of third goalie is something special for us because of the young goalkeepers that we also have in the squad and Alex fills it in really well. With his manner, with his great ambition in each individual training session and his experience, he supports his young fellow goalkeepers really well. Despite his long career, Alex is still fully fit and we are delighted that he will remain an important part of our team next season.”
