Who is Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs in Eurovision? Hold Me Closer singer among the best winners
Before she even sets foot on the stage to compete in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2022, Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs is already one of the favorites to win and also has a Eurovision past.
To get to Italy to compete in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Cornelia had to get through the heat in the famous Swedish national competition Melodifestivalen and the final, where she faced very tough competition from the national treasure Anders Bagge and his song Bigger Than The Universum . Fortunately for Cornelia, while the lion’s share of the viewers’ vote went to Anders, she ended up at the top of the international juries and received enough support from the pub to win the victory with her song Hold Me Closer.
Sweden has a proud record in Eurovision. No music fan will ever forget ABBA’s victories in the early 1970s, while other famous Swedish winners include Charlotte Nilsson who won the last millennium competition with Take Me To Your Heaven, Loreen who won with the anthem Euphoria 10 years ago and Manz Zamerlow, who did his latest win in 2015.
Cornelia, 30, is in action in Thursday’s Eurovision semi-final 2, performs second to last towards the end of the show and would like to follow the semi-final qualifiers as Norway’s Subwoolfer, and bookmakers’ favorites to win in Eurovision odds, Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra into the final. But Eurovision 2022 is far from her first rodeo when it comes to the competition has failed to represent Sweden both in 2011 and 2012.

Cornelia entered the Melodifestivalen for the first time in 2011 as a member of the girl group Love Generation, three years after competing in Sweden’s version of Pop Idol. Love Generation finished third in the fourth semifinal of the competition with their song Dance Alone, which was enough to give them a place in the “second chance” show, where they crashed.
The group gave Eurovision another chance a year later with Just A Little Bit, but they fell at the first hurdle after only finishing sixth in their semi. Since Love Generation’s heartache at Eurovision, Cornelia has forced a solo career in her home country and composed and performed the song “Weight of the World” which became the soundtrack to the HBO Nordic series Björnstad.
Other songs that Cornelia has on Spotify include Fine, All The Gold and Late Night Stories.
