Rally de Portugal causes traffic restrictions in Coimbra until the 20th

However, according to the communiqué, the restrictions to traffic initially already on Saturday, with Avenida de Conímbriga – between the University Stadium and the Mondego River – “only with circulation in the south-north direction” due to the various assemblies, 21:00 on Wednesday the 18th, when traffic will be closed.
Also on Saturday, “the parking lot at Praça das Cortes and the small access road on Avenida João das Regras will also be closed to traffic”.
At the fair, on the 16th, and until the morning of the 20th, “all parking spaces” will be removed on Rua António Gonçalves “from the junction with Rua das Parreiras, to the second, being accessible only to residents”, on Rua Feitoria dos L, “from the junction with Rua Cano dos Amores”, equally accessible to residents, and on Rua Luís Verney, “with buses only available for SMTUC [Serviços Municipalizados de Transportes Urbanos de Coimbra].
The holding, in Coimbra, of the official start and first qualifying round of the 55th edition of the Rally de Portugal will affect the transport network of the SMTUC, which 11 deactivated bus stops and 28 lines “with substantial impacts on their routes”, including the suspension of the so-called Botanical Line.
In the statement, the City Council assured how two schools in the area (Silva Gaio and D. Duarte) will “operate normally” and the school community informed “of all existing restrictions” in the surroundings.
The municipality also highlighted the existence of five free car parks for the public in the car competition on the 19th (Choupal, Exploratório and 23, Quinta da Várzea, Exploratório and Parque Verde — Margem Esquerda), two with a higher parking capacity, other means and one of capacity two.
The Parque Verde car park, on the right bank of the Mondego, paid from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm and with a higher capacity, can also be used.
In the note, the City Council promoted that a team of municipal technicians, “has been coming to the place, residents and residents about the various constraints, articulated as different entities involved in the organization of the event”.
“This work will intensify in the coming days, especially in the Rossio area of Santa Clara, to help define, for example, that establishments on Avenida João das Regras (and the surrounding area may be open during their opening hours) and without any restriction on the sale of products by traders, only with a condition that terraces cannot be set up”.
