Golden doctoral anniversary celebrated – University of Innsbruck
On Tuesday, May 10th, numerous doctors who received their doctorates from the University of Innsbruck in 1972 celebrated their golden doctoral jubilee in the Dogana of the Congress Innsbruck. After 50 years, they renewed their doctoral promise and confirmed their commitment to their alma mater.
“You have been successful for many years and worked with great commitment in certain areas and in top positions in science, in politics, in culture, in state and economic institutions and in general in and for society. As rector of the University of Innsbruck, I can already express my appreciation for your achievements, thanks for your studies at our alma mater and best wishes for the years to come,” explained rector Tilmann Märk as part of his words of welcome to the honorees. Rector Wolfgang Fleischhacker also congratulated the jubilarians on behalf of the Medical University of Innsbruck.
Among the honorees were the internationally renowned mathematician Ernst Hairer, the former TILAK board member Herbert Weissenböck and the long-time managing director of Neue Heimat Tirol, Klaus Lugger, as well as former rector Manfried Gantner, who also spoke the words on the occasion. The Haller Stadtpfeiffer provided the musical accompaniment to the festive event.
Living togetherness of the generations
The golden doctoral jubilee was introduced after the Second World War in order to maintain the connection between the graduates and the University of Innsbruck and to create a lively coexistence of the generations. The golden doctoral jubilee was regulated by law in 1955. Initially, only graduates who could demonstrate a direct connection to the university were invited. However, this restriction was lifted in the 1980s under Rector Rainer Sprung. Since then, everyone who has completed a doctorate at the University of Innsbruck has been invited to the Golden Doctoral Jubilee to renew their doctoral degree.
