Country pays out refugee money late
politics
Accommodation providers for refugees from Ukraine criticize that the authorities have so far been paying out the money for basic services too slowly. It would take five to seven weeks for money to flow from the country. State authorities say the lack of staff is the reason. And the federal government used to be responsible.
Around 3,400 refugees from Ukraine are currently being registered by the police in Salzburg. Around 2,000 of them are in basic care. You are entitled to money from the state.
Strong criticism from the population
It takes far too long for the money to be paid out, says Wilhelm Höpflinger, who brought in refugees from the Ukraine himself: “The initial registration is with Caritas. It then takes about five weeks for the money to be paid out. During this time they have to live on their savings. Or the landlords have to make sure that they get people through this time.”
country will hire more people
From the country’s social department under LHstv. Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens) is informed that there are too many applications and at the same time too few staff to process them. The civil servant Andreas Eichhorn heads the department. He emphasizes that the federal government would have clarified the right to financial aid earlier. Now the country would have to do this work itself: “We have already increased the number of employees. Two more will follow in mid-May. In the final phase, we will be able to use five more in basic care.”
According to Eichhorn, the country currently has 300 open applications for basic services from Ukrainians. The backlog was processed as quickly as possible.
