Börse Express – FW-Salzburg brings two applications through the economic parliament
Most of the FW applications to relieve companies and against the Supply Chain Act were accepted
Vienna (OTS) – Austria’s economy has been in crisis for over two years now. First Corona was to blame, they say, then the unvaccinated were to blame, in between a ship that blocked the Suez Canal was to blame, now it’s the war in Ukraine – now the Russians are to blame for the crisis. “In reality, the crisis is homemade, and to a large extent it is nobody else’s fault than our own federal government that we first slid into the crisis and now, despite all our intentions, cannot get out of it,” criticized the state chairman of the FW-Salzburg on the occasion of the economic parliament in the country.
In order to counteract the crisis, the Free Economy has submitted three motions to the Salzburg Economic Parliament, which are intended to avert home-made difficulties for companies in the state. Firstly, the application “Relieve companies – create jobs – secure prosperity” deals with the difficult environment after the COVID measures in Austria and calls on the WKO to contact the federal government for fair working conditions and against burdens on the Austrian economy as well as for conditions suitable for everyday use in the world of work, since it is in the interests of companies to be able to attract and retain qualified workers. A second application clarifies how poorly thought out the planned supply chain law is to be sent on its way. Because this set of rules with a higher level of liability will spread from the corporations to the small and medium-sized businesses – with catastrophic consequences. According to the draft, companies are responsible for environmental and human rights standards right down to raw materials and parts throughout the supply chain. “This goes so far that a carpentry business then has to assume full liability for not processing wood from the often widely ramified supply chains that come from a risk area. If he doesn’t, he won’t get the job or will be liable and fined,” Pewny warns. The FW requested that the WKO should vehemently oppose this law.
These two FW applications were accepted benevolently by all groups except the Greens. Only the third application by the Free Economy against the new penalty interest on bank balances was rejected by the majority faction ÖVP and therefore not dealt with. “That’s a pity, because the fact that banks are now also allowed to cash in on account balances is not in the interests of a business location. It is incomprehensible that the ÖVP-affiliated business association is closer to the banks than to the WK members,” Pewny concludes with regret.
