Processes – Munich – Ex-Wirecard boss Braun fights for his assets – Bavaria
Munich (dpa) – The former Wirecard CEO Markus Braun defends himself in court against the freezing of his assets. In December, insolvency administrator Michael Jaffè obtained an arrest warrant for a total of 175 million euros belonging to Braun and his investment company. Now, on Thursday (11:30 a.m.), the district court in Munich is hearing Braun’s objection to these arrest decisions. Since this is a civil case, the manager, who has been in custody for almost two years, does not have to appear in person.
The former Wirecard boss, who is suspected of fraud, is not only confronted with the criminal proceedings, but also with numerous civil lawsuits. Only a week ago, after a lawsuit by the insolvency administrator, the Munich district court declared the Wirecard balance sheets for the years 2017 and 2018 void because of incorrect figures. Braun rejects the allegations of fraud.
The group collapsed in 2020 after the admission of sham bookings of 1.9 billion euros. Braun sees himself as a victim of fraudsters in the company. A key figure in the scandal is former sales director Jan Marsalek, who resigned in the summer of 2020 and has remained in hiding to this day.
