Portugal’s final call-up for the U-17 European Championship is already known
Defender Tomás Marques, midfielder Afonso Duarte and strikers Gustavo Varela and João Rego were selected for the final call-up of the Portuguese under-17 team for the European Championship in Israel.
José Lima initially chose to present a selection during the launch of the pre-call 24 players in the first phase of preparation, in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, but would have to ‘cut 20 names.
In this way, Tomás Marques and Afonso Duarte, both from Sporting de Braga, and Gustavo Varela and João Rego, who represent Benfica, ended up being passed over for the continental tournament, which will take place between the 16th of May and the 1st of June, in Israel.
The ‘quinas’ team, which is part of Group D, will face Scotland (May 17), Sweden (20), and Denmark (23), during the group stage of the European category, in which the 16 selections are vying for the fortress in four groups and the first of each will qualify for the quarter finals, which will be played on May 25 and 26.
