Meeting zone: Residents for traffic through the center
Traffic
At the discussion round on the meeting zone between the Neutor and the Salzachkai on Tuesday in the city of Salzburg, residents and business people spoke out in favor of traffic routing through the center. Traffic should continue to roll through the narrow Gstättentor in the future.
The area between Neutor, Bürgerspitalplatz, further along Münzgasse to the roundabout at the Haus der Natur is to become a meeting place. The city will calm traffic here. Around 100 people took part in the discussion round on the redesign – mainly residents and business people. You have clearly signaled that traffic should continue to flow through the narrow Gstättentor in front of the Mönchsberg lift. The suggestions from the discussion round between the city of Salzburg, residents and business people are now being incorporated into the traffic planning.
Neighbors vs. Münzgassen variant
The second possible variant of the traffic planners would be to guide the cars and buses with oncoming traffic via the Münzgasse – but entrepreneurs don’t think much of that. City councilor for transport Barbara Unterkofler (ÖVP) wants to calm traffic through the narrow streets by reducing the maximum speed between Neutor and Salzachkai to 20 km/h for all road users – as specified in meeting zones.
Bus bays should go
In addition, there should no longer be any bus bays in the area. Trolleybuses stop on the road, which, according to Unterkofler, creates more space for a meeting zone and thus more space for all road users. As a next step, the suggestions from the discussion round with residents and business people will be incorporated into the planning.
