Terbuntsy and surroundings of the Chechersky district of the Gomel region of the Republic of Belarus became twin cities
On Victory Day, the Terbunsky district and the Chechersky district of the Gomel region of the Republic of Belarus signed an Agreement on the establishment of sister city-partner relations.
The document was signed at the Terbunsky Frontier memorial on the day of the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the Victory over the Nazi invaders. And this is no coincidence. During the war years, representatives of the representatives of the republics of the former USSR, including Belarusians, fought shoulder to shoulder here. And in 1942, the memory of the village of Kamenka took place one of the most important tank battles of the Great Patriotic War. It was commanded by the famous commander, a native of the Chechersk district of the Gomel region, Major General Alexander Ilyich Lizyukov, who died in this battle. His bust is installed on the memorial “Terbunsky frontier”.
The initiative for closer ties between the two regions came from the Terbunians. At the invitation of the Terbunsky administration, guests from the Republic of Belarus visited the region for the first time and visited the memorial “Terbunsky Frontier”.
– The memory of our countryman connected the Chechersky and Terbunsky regions. And today we have signed an Agreement that will strengthen friendly ties, help to establish both economic and socio-social cooperation between individual regions, – said Yulia Basargina, Deputy Chairman of the Chechersk District Executive Committee of the Gomel Region.
The head of the Terbunsky district, Sergey Barabanshchikov, noted that there is potential for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the environment. Many subjects of economic activity of “Terbuna” are already interested in limitless prospects.
Opening the solemn rally in honor of the Victory Day, Sergey Barabanshchikov reminded how dearly it had been won. For more than two hundred days, heavy battles raged on the Terbunsky land. Until now, the search engines are extracting the remains of the killed soldiers, which are subsequently reburied in mass graves at the Terbunsky Frontier memorial. More than 10 thousand Terbunians went to the front, less than half returned. Nine natives of the area adjacent to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Representatives of the Republic of Belarus and all those gathered at the memorial observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims. We got acquainted with the exposition of the “museum under the sunny sky” and laid fresh flowers at the monument to the Mother of Sorrows and the monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Maor General Alexander Lizyukov. A large theatrical program was prepared for guests from the friendly republic, where Belarusian and Russian songs of the war years are heard.
On Victory Day, the tastes of the village of Ozerki are the first to come to the memorial. In 1942-1943, the lines of the front passed just a few hundred meters from the village. The older generation still remembers how German tanks walked through the streets, how it seems they were hiding from gunfire in basements. As the Germans, retreating, burned houses. Thatched huts flared up with such matches, whole streets burned out.
Many families came to the holiday, with portraits of their relatives-front-line soldiers in their hands. Tamara Razinkova came with a portrait of her grandfather, Savely Krytsin. He liberated Poland, cleared mines in Krakow. He returned home in 1945. Svetlana Kharitonova is holding a portrait of her father’s uncle. Dmitry Ushakov went to the front on June 24, 1941, went missing in 1942 near Rzhev. Every Terbun family has its own front-line heroes.
At the solemn rally, not only Terbunians came to the memorial, but also those from Volovsky, Dolgorukovsky and other districts of the region, from Lipetsk and even Voronezh regions. – a captivating person. All those present were treated free of charge to soldiers’ porridge from the field kitchen and hot tea.
