Several commute to Norway to work

In the first quarter of this year, there were just over 2.95 million jobs in this country, a percentage of 5.3 compared with the same time last year.
At the same time, the total number of foreign commuters has increased by more than 8,000 from the first quarter of 2021 to the same quarter in 2022. This corresponds to an increase of just over 12 per cent, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).
– We see for the first time since the outbreak of the corona that there are more non-resident employees when we compare with the same period the year before, says Tonje Køber, section manager for the labor market and wages.
– This must be seen in connection with entry restrictions and quarantine rules into Norway were lifted at the beginning of February this year, she says.
Immigrants have accounted for most of the growth in the number of employees. if we compare the first quarter of 2022 with the same quarter of 2020, before the measures against the corona affected the Norwegian labor market.
Since 2020, there have been 50,000 more employees in total in this country, and immigrants have accounted for 66 percent of this increase, according to Statistics Norway.
