“Concrete willingness to close the dossier”
It was the May 9, 1950when at the Quai d’Orsay in Paris, seat of the French Foreign Ministry, Community Europe is born. The statement of Robert Schuman started the integration process. His words went down in history: «Europe cannot be built at once, nor will it be built all together; it it will arise from concrete achievements that first of all create a de facto solidarity“.
With this vision of the future, Schuman announces the will to pool Franco-German coal and steel production, within the framework of an organization to which he could join the other European countries. There was theneed to end conflicts between the two powers, to preserve peace at a time when Europe was trying to heal the wounds of the Second World War. A party that today takes on an even stronger meaning. “The future of Europe is linked to that of Ukraine ” says the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsolawhile the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen Kiev pushes within the EU: “The Commission – he says – aims to dare its opinion in June”. The French President Emanuele Macron But he clarifies: “We are not at war with Russia”. And he adds: “peace is not built with the humiliation of Moscow”. States are wondering about the future of Europe. “I will always be on the side of those who want to reform the European Union to make it work better” says von der Lyen to Strasbourg who opens, with Macron, to the modification of the treatiespushing the abolition of unanimous voting. We need more Europe. But what Europe do we want?
“And the great theme on which many question themselves”- affirms the Foreign Secretary Luca Beccari. “She has seen herself – she adds more or less uniform position of all European countries However, Europe compared to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which includes 27 states which in fact represent one important slice of world GDP, must be able to move away from the geopolitical chessboard as a unitary political subject that has its say in the major issues “. For the head of Titan’s foreign policy, “it is a Europe that must learn to face not only its internal challenges but also know how to place oneself with respect to global ones“.
In the meantime, San Marino goes ahead in the association agreement, “a non-political path”- Beccari recalls -“ we will not be a member state but integrates into a market that will give us new opportunities“. Face-to-face negotiations resumed last week: “The meeting in Brussels was very positive, gives us hope for a close cycle of confrontation. The most important thing is that I have registered a truly concrete willingness to take the dossier in hand and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. Surely the moment must be exploited in a positive sense “.
