Red is against NATO, but will not announce Norway now
This weekend, Rødt leader Bjørnar Moxnes thus received support in the party’s national board for his views, writes Klassekampen.
– We are against NATO, but at the same time do not want to leave the country completely defenseless, says Moxnes.
He has on several occasions previously stated that the party is against NATO membership and wants to rebuild the Norwegian defense and rather work for a strong Nordic defense alliance.
Within the party, there has been discussion about this, but now Moxnes has received support for his view in the national government.
The statement from this weekend’s national board meeting states that the party is against Norwegian NATO membership, but that at the same time it will be politically irresponsible to advocate that Norway with its reduced national defense should sign up and stand completely alone.
A proposal that it should not be a criterion that the defense must be built up before withdrawal, fell by 16 votes to 25.
According to the newspaper, the minority will continue to work on the case, which may be a topic at Rødt’s national meeting next year. The minority believes that Moxnes’ interpretation of the party program is contrary to Rødt’s work program, and that this must therefore be addressed at the national assembly.
