GHTC with double derby victory
field hockey The Gladbacher HTC hockey men win both at Blau-Weiß and Schwarz-Weiß Köln. Once again, Dayaan towers over Cassiem. But two junior staff also meet.
At the derby weekend in Cologne, the Gladbach hockey men showed themselves to be in better shape both in the 5-2 (1-0) win at Blau-Weiss Köln and in the 5-1 (2-1) win at Schwarz-Weiss Köln and underlined theirs good team performance with six points.
The guests had to do without four players against Blue and White, as Wei Adams, Robin Kremers, Elias Trueson and Christian Voit were not there. After a balanced first quarter, an increasingly intense game takes place. At the front, Dayaan Cassiem once again underlined his class and took the lead at the break. After the change, he completed two assists from Mustaphaa Cassiem and Paul Tenckhoff to make it 3-0 in quick succession, before the defense was called on at the other end. The defense around goalkeeper Patrick Alex had to fend off a whole series of corners in the third quarter, which they managed to do with a lot of commitment and assertiveness. Only the fifth Cologne attempt overcame the GHTC goalkeeper to 1: 3 through Lars Schulte. In the last part of the game it became much more competitive with many fouls and discussions, so that both sides received green and even yellow cards and Cologne briefly took the goalkeeper off the field.
Then veteran Paul Tenckhoff ensured the decisive 4:1 (52nd), which was followed by Cologne’s Jan-Marco Montag and Mustaphaa Cassiem for the GHTC, so that the score was 5:2.
Both teams also had some start-up time against Schwarz-Weiß Köln, so there were few good chances. At the beginning of the second quarter, Gladbach’s Justus Turinsky deflected a long ball from Dayaan Cassiem and was able to celebrate his debut goal. Benjamin Bachmann possible for the home side. But almost in return, the next GHTC player, 16-year-old Jonas Röder, was able to celebrate his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga and restored the lead at the break. After the change, Gladbach kept their nerve in a hard-fought game, especially captain Felix Krause, and increased the score to 5-1 with goals from Mustaphaa and Dayaan Cassiem as well as Tevin Kok.
“It’s nice that we had such a successful derby weekend, the next one against Neuss and Krefeld will follow in two weeks. We defended solidly, especially from corners, and took advantage of our chances up front. In addition to Dayaan, Felix Krause and David Franco as well as Patrick Alex in goal also impressed. Added to that are the first goals from Justus Turinsky and Jonas Röder, who fit in perfectly with the team,” coach Jan Klatt drew a positive conclusion.
The Gladbachers thus consolidate their second place in the table behind Krefeld and well ahead of Neuss and Großflottbek, who showed unusual weaknesses with defeats against Marienburg and Bonner THV at the bottom.
Dayaan Cassiem took his tally to 22 with four goals over the weekend and has now more than doubled his brother Mustaphaa, who shared second on the top scorer list with three other players.
