With the British artist Endless, the Pavilion of the Republic of San Marino brings street art to the Venice Biennale
VENICE – It is entitled “The Infinite Transfiguration”, The visionary installation that the English street artist Endless led, on the occasion of the 59. Venice International Art Exhibitionto the Pavilion of the Republic of San Marinoorganized by FR Institute of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the gallery Contemporary Cris Contini.
Endlessin addition to being the first and only street artist he enters the Uffizi Galleries with a permanent work, he is also the first street artist ever to exhibit at the Venice Biennale.
Endless’s work is part of the theme that the Pavilion of the Republic of San Marino has chosen to explore for the Biennale Arte 2022, namely the Posthuman Metamorphic. The project, supervised by Commissioner Riccardo Varini and curator by Vincenzo Rotondo (FR Institute of Contemporary Art) explores the complex relationship between body and metamorphosis, fueled by man’s constant tension towards the future, giving life to new, innumerable forms of existence. and coexistence between the individual, nature and technology.
The installation
The work, created by the artist with the critical contribution of Pasquale Lettieri, is presented as an imposing installation, 14 meters long, which has at its center a human torso with outstretched arms and open hands. The installation is made up of a collage of largely recycled materials, such as panels and doors in wood, metal and silver plates, on which the artist has inserted digital graphics, photographed digitally panels and layers of paint that recall expressly manipulated its street art background. The underlying theme of the entire work is the contrasting relationship between human progress and Mother Nature.
The overall shape of the structure, with its mix of digital and analogue techniques, evokes an imperfect journey towards a dystopian future in which man and technology coexist in a chaotic equilibrium.
The Pavilion of the Republic of San Marino presents seven other international artists: Anne-Cécile Surga, Elisa Cantarelli, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Michelangelo Galliani, Rosa Mundi, Roberto Paci Dalò and Michele Tombolini, selected by a scientific committee composed of Alessandro Bianchini, Roberto Felicetti, Cristian Contini, Fulvio Granocchia, Pasquale Lettieri, James Putnam, Riccardo Varini and Angela Vettese. The works, presented in the prestigious setting of the historic Palazzo Donà dalle Rose – seat of the Pavilion of the Republic of San Marino at the Biennale Arte 2022 – investigate the theme from multiple points of view, each an expression of the different vision of each artist.
