The state of Salzburg is expanding the cycle path network by ten kilometers this year and is investing six million euros in it. The longest new section of one and a half kilometers is being built in the municipality of Hof (Flachgau) along the Wiestal Landesstraße.
In total, the cycle path connections will be expanded at 15 locations. With costs of 1.2 million euros, the expansion of the cycle path in Hof is also the most expensive face. This is followed by the widening of the Pflegerbrücke in Grödig (Flachgau), which also widens the existing cycle path. This project is budgeted at one million euros.
Bike for commuting or as a feeder to the bus and train
Around 50 percent of all journeys in the entire federal state are currently shorter than five kilometers. “Thanks to direct connections, the bike is also becoming an alternative for commuting to work. All in all, the right mobility mix is needed to get everyone to their destination as quickly as possible. The bike is often the feeder to the bus or train,” says Transport Councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP).
Closing the gap along the Munich federal highway
In Abtenau (Tennengau) the expansion of the connection between Scheffau and Abtenau will start this year, the construction of the cycle path will take several years. In the state capital, as part of the expansion of the Munich federal highway, a pedestrian and cycle path is being built from the roundabout to the Salzburg-Mitte motorway exit in the direction of Freilassing.
The expansion on both sides of the four-lane road will close a gap – it should ensure safe cycling along the heavily frequented Munich federal highway and also comfort. The city of Salzburg is also involved in the footpath and cycle path.
