Embassy of Italy, Ceremony on Saturday 7 May at 13.00 for the 93rd National Gathering of the Alpine troops in Rimini and San Marino
For the 93rd National Assembly of the Alpine troops in Rimini and San Marino, the Embassy of Italy hosts the Exhibition of the Campana dei Caduti di Rovereto Foundation. The prestigious Trentino institution, founded in 1924 to commemorate the fallen of the First World War, has over the years expanded its mission in promoting and spreading the values of peace with a wide range of initiatives at national and international level. The exhibition documents the organisation’s century of life with about fifty vintage photos and bronze statues and the many adhesions it has gradually collected in Italy and abroad. Today there are 101 flags flying on the Colle di Miravalle overlooking Rovereto and alongside the bronze Bell over three meters high (226 Qt,) and with a poignant and unmistakable sound (Maria Dolens). A section is dedicated – thanks also to the documents found in the State Archives of San Marino – to joining the Republic on 5 May 1960. At the time the Captains regent Casali and Vannucci signed the formal deed after an investigation that the protagonist was the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Federico Bigi and, on the side of the Foundation, its Regent, Father Eusebio Iori, the first successor of the founder Don Antonio Rossaro. The membership, motivated by the desire to commemorate the San Marino citizens who fell during the Great War, constituted a step along the road to the affirmation of San Marino, a recognized actor on the international scene, as it later demonstrated the adhesion to the Council of Europe and the United Nations . The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 7 May at the Embassy of Italy with the participation of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari and the civil and military authorities who have come to San Marino for the National Gathering of the Alpine troops. Among them the current Regent of the Foundation, Ambassador Marco Marsilli, and the mayor of Rovereto himself, Francesco Valduga. Also the national president of ANA, Engineer Sebastiano Favero with the members of the ANA Council and General CA Ignazio Gamba, Commander of the Alpine troops, will move to the Embassy from Kursaal for the ceremony after the meeting with the Foreign Sections of the ANA. The choir of the ANA of Milan will perform on the occasion in its concert of mountain songs immediately after listening to the sound of the Bell of the Fallen, Maria Dolens.
