Brazil and Portugal celebrated the language in New York
Portugal and Brazil celebrate together, on Thursday, the World Day of the Portuguese Language, with a concert by the Portuguese group Senza with the Brazilian soprano Angelica de la Rivaat the Brazilian consulate in New York.
The Portuguese duo Senza, whose repertoire is composed of songs inspired by travels that make the world, took the stage with a multifaceted soprano Angélica de la Riva, before a panel of about 100 people of nationalities, in an event that several still with the support do Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language.
In a statement to Lusa, at the end of the musical presentation, the ul-general of Portugal in New York, Luísa Pais Lowe, took into account that this program was only made for the group with Brazil, she wanted a message of “unity and friendship” to the world .
“The Portuguese language must always be celebrated together, with everyone who speaks it, who likes it, who wants to learn it. Not only Portuguese-speaking countries, but also all those who like Portugal and our language. From the beginning it could only be a partnership. We have been preparing this for a few months now and it was a beautiful, varied musical offer, which brought together musicians from Portugal and Brazil”, she said.
Diplomacy classified the Portuguese language as a language of the future, increasingly global, which has become a strategic asset of Portuguese foreign policy and cultural diplomacy.
“It is a language that works, builds bridges and consensus. It is a language of peace and cooperation, but also a language of business, science, art and culture. Those who learn it have an added value in their curriculum”, said Luísa Pais Lowe.
In the South General of Brazil in New York, Nazareth Azevêdo, highlighted that the country has done many exercises to publish the Portuguese language in the United States, with the Camões Institute.
“We even created an institute, Guimarães Rosa, to follow the example of Portugal, and we have worked together, for example, at the United Nations school, in the teaching of Portuguese”, the Brazilian diplomat told Lusa.
Among the activities developed by Brazil, Nazareth Azevêdo indicated a recording of Portuguese classes for Brazilians, made available on the YouTube platform, so that anyone can teach Portuguese as a heritage language to family members.
In addition to the celebration of World Portuguese Language Day, Brazil and Portugal are preparing, in New York, as commemorations of the bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil.
“We are starting to work on the bi celebrations and that is because, in a world like the very important one that is now possible, it is essential to show that two countries separate in peace and friendship, build ties for the future. Brazil and Portugal are always a good example of this”, observed Luísa Pais Lowe.
“We are two friendly countries, close, and Brazil wants to celebrate the 200 years of its Independence together with Portugal, to set an example of fraternity, and friendship, in this world that needs this message so much”, advocated, in turn, Nazareth Azevêdo .
