Theater and dance – On the display in Avignon, Laurence Perez places seven Swiss pearls
On the display in Avignon, Laurence Perez places seven Swiss pearls
The ambassador of Swiss companies to the Avignon raout, pouring OFF, signs her new programming, before Esther Welger-Barboza succeeds her.
The Swiss scene owes a lot to Laurence Perez. Thanks to her, our theater and dance companies can strut their heads held high in the streets of the City of the Popes. Changing into fervor what, within France, was at best ignorance, at worst disdain for Swiss creation, is his work. Since 2016, the French wears the Swiss selection in Avignonnicely described SCH: a project designed and financed mainly by Pro Helvetia and the Commission romande de diffusion des spectacles (Corodis). Laurence Perez can be proud of having notably revealed artists from French-speaking Switzerland who are acclaimed today in France and Navarre, such as Francois Gremaud, Yan Duyvendak, Joel Maillard and others Emilie Charriot we Antoinette Rychner. At the end of this 6and edition (that of 2020 having been canceled), the talent scout will go elsewhere to exercise hers and will be canceled in September by Esther Welger-Barboza.
The number of shows selected as well as the sets hosting them remain fixed from one summer to the next. This year, we will note the presence of three pure Geneva women in the ranks of a national delegation very active in dance. As part of the Intrépides – a proposal from the French SACD (Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers) and the Swiss Society of Authors – the author Olivia Csiky Trnka will be invited to read publicly an unpublished work born from her pen. At the Théâtre du Train Bleu, Charlotte Dumartheray will direct the dancer Kiyan Khoshoie in a hilarious stand-up in the image of his life, “Grand Gap”. While on the choreographic stage of Les Hivernales, Ruth Child will transcend Walt Disney in a “Fantasia” dedicated to the classical composers who rocked his childhood.
Four other titles, again from French-speaking Switzerland, complete the menu. A graduate of the Manufacture, Coline Bardin will evoke in “La Mâtrue – Farewell to the farm” the French agricultural environment which saw her grow up. For children, the Lausanne quintet Prédüm will present “C’est vos affaires!” improvising from a doll, a chandelier and a handkerchief. With “The Game of Nibelungen”, Laura Gambarini will gesticulate alone on stage, under the baton of Manu Moser, the entirety of the epic having inspired the “Ring” in Wagner. Finally, the “Dedication” by Romane Peytavin and Pierre Piton will deploy its installation to the tunes of a choreographic jukebox in the intimacy.
