Portugal “does not have on the table at the moment” revision of the Orthographic Agreement, says Minister of Culture
“This question [revisão do Acordo Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa em Portugal] It’s not on the table right now. All spelling agreements throughout history have always been criticized,” said Minister Pedro Adão e Silva.
Speaking to Lusa, in Luanda, in Luanda, on the sidelines of the solemn ceremony to mark the World Day of the Portuguese Language, the Portuguese also referred that this “is a matter that does not depend on the Minister of Culture”.
The celebrations of the World Portuguese Language Day took place at the headquarters of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Luanda, “Capital of Culture of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) 2022”.
The Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990, signed by the Portuguese CPLP countries, has not been ratified by Angola so far.
“What I do in the Orthographic Agreement is positive, but we must know how to articulate what is a norm, an existence of grammatical and orthographic norms, it is a factor of inclusion, it is a factor that allows us to combat inequalities, bringing those who are out of evaluation. to the inside”, said Pedro Adão e Silva.
“But they speak without speaking a viva, those that are the language of Luís Camões. those that we today consider the norm”, he maintained.
For the Portuguese government official, “it is necessary to know how to combine this importance of the norm to understand that languages are, by definition, dynamic, always changing, change comes precisely from the way in which the youngest appropriate it”.
Regarding the position of Angola, which has not ratified the agreement, the Portuguese Minister of Culture said that he respects the option of the African country, noting that this is not what prevents the sharing of a community built around the language.
And “it’s also that Portuguese in Angola has a wealth, a diversity and a variety and even a kind of modernity that is very positive for Portuguese”.
Pedro Adão e Silva, who ended his official visit to Angola, participated on Wednesday in the 12th meeting of the CPLP Ministers of Culture and visited several cultural projects and initiatives, within the scope of the “Luanda Capital of Culture of the CPLP 2022”.
“I make a very positive assessment of a very intense language, where I came into contact with various dimensions of the Angolan cultural reality and also of the language, this is very interesting and stimulating”, he commented.
The “unifying” role of the language at the community level and its Portuguese diversity, “which is naturally geographical, but which is also generational”, was also highlighted by the official.
On Thursday morning, the Portuguese minister visited projects of traveling libraries and reading clubs in the Benfica area, southwest of Luanda, and said a terrifying word “impressed” with a recitation of rhymed poetry and “spoken word” by young people.
“With a record, it’s very close to what I might find in Lisbon with 20-year-olds and which is very different from the way I use Portuguese. “, Light.
“More than a symbology, [o português] it is the cement that unites us, the CPLP has many formations from its ministerial meetings in many different areas for this sharing, it would not exist, that is, it is the culture that first unites us but he added .
There is only CPLP, he said, “because there is this shared side”.
“We must not forget these aspects and realize that strength and this continuity depend on the way in which pattern of use does not respect the definition that is similar in the for diversity”, up opening.
For Portugal, Pedro Adão e Silva “has in his luggage” the “awareness that Angola is a country with enormous creative energy, with a very interesting artistic motivation, many things happening”.
“Certainly with less framework from the point of view of politics than what happens in Portugal, but with a radical force that I saw a lot of, I saw interesting projects, I saw a lot of talent and that they are young people who need opportunities”, he concluded.
