THE BALL – «I regret not having signed at FC Porto, not having won for Portugal» (Brazil)
Not having participated in a World Cup with the Brazil national team is one of Carlos Alberto’s biggest regrets. A dream that the Brazilian says he could have fulfilled with the Portugal jersey.
«I dare not have known at FC Porto for a long time, more naturalized and not being able to have in the Portuguese national team. I kept dreaming that I could play a World Cup for my country. At the time, when considering this one (of playing for Portugal) he wants me to be betraying my country. But it was not possible for several reasons», revealed the former midfielder in statements to the WiBCast podcast, where he left criticism of the Brazilian federation.
“Unfortunately, in the Brazilian team, you are not called up just for your football. There are several other things that complete the water in the glass. I ended up going back to Brazil, I had opportunities, but I heard that I didn’t have a (proper) behavior, more this or that. And the football I played was not seen. One mistake, a thousand convictions. When something went bad, I paid an extraordinary price for people to accept me again, for me to be recognized for who I was again.”
Carlos Alberto represented FC Porto in the 2003/04 season, having won a championship, a Super Cup, a Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup. In 2005 he returned to Brazil to represent Corinthians. In Europe also played for Bremen. He retired from the pitch in 2019 with the Boavista-RJ jersey.
