Copenhagen: In addition to the second India-Nordic summit in Copenhagen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with her Swedish counterpart Magdalena Andersson on Wednesday, where both sides reviewed the progress made in the bilateral partnership.
This was the first meeting between the two leaders. Both leaders also discussed the possibilities of deepening cooperation in areas such as innovation, climate technology, climate action, green hydrogen, space, defense, civil aviation, the Arctic, polar research, sustainable mining and trade and economic ties.
Discussions were also held on regional and global development.
India and Sweden have had long-term close relations based on common values; strong business, investment and R&D links; and similar strategies for global peace, security and development.
Innovation, technology, investments and R&D collaborations form the basis of this modern relationship. During the 2018 visit of Prime Minister Modi to Sweden on the occasion of the first Nordic summit, the two sides had adopted a comprehensive joint action plan and signed a joint innovation partnership, said Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the progress made in our bilateral partnership. They also expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the leading IT initiative. This was a joint global initiative between India and Sweden to form a Leadership Group on Industry Transition (LeadIT) in September 2019 at the UN Climate Summit to help the world’s industries that emit the heaviest greenhouse gases (GHGs) towards a low-carbon economy. Its membership has now grown to 35 with 16 countries and 19 companies.
Ahead of the India-Nordic summit to take place on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on the last part of her three-day visit to Europe, will hold bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
On Twitter, the Prime Minister’s Office wrote: “Strengthens friendship with Norway. Prime Ministers @narendramodi and @jonasgahrstore meet in Copenhagen. They make an inventory of the full range of bilateral relations between the two nations and ways to deepen development cooperation.”
Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Iceland and Finland. “On the side of the summit, I will also meet the leaders of the other four Nordic countries and review the progress of India’s bilateral relations with them,” Modi said.
Following the bilateral talks, Modi will attend the India-Nordic summit in Denmark, before traveling to Paris to meet with newly elected President Emmanuel Macron on the last day of his three-day European visit on Wednesday.
The second India-Nordic summit will see the prime ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway, and will follow up the first summit that took place in Stockholm, Sweden in 2018.
“The summit will focus on topics such as post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the evolving global security scenario and India-Nordic co-operation in the Arctic region,” Modi said in his resignation. on the three-day visit on Sunday.
Following the summit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to make a brief stopover in Paris for a meeting with Emmanuel Macron, France’s newly elected president.

Modi arrived in Berlin on Monday to hold bilateral talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, before taking part in the sixth intergovernmental consultations between India and Germany.

A total of nine agreements were signed between India and Germany, including a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on Green and Sustainable Development Partnerships, under which Germany agreed to commit € 10 billion in new and additional development assistance to India by 2030.
The Indian Prime Minister also spoke to the Indian community in Berlin where he spoke about the achievements of his government, especially when it comes to integrating technology with governance.
On the second day of his visit, the Indian Prime Minister arrived in Copenhagen and held talks with his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen and discussed bilateral issues including trade between the two countries and cooperation on environmental measures.
The two leaders also held talks at delegation level in Copenhagen to review the progress of the Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Modi and his counterpart also discussed Ukraine, in which the former reiterated India’s position on the early cessation of hostilities and a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict.
The two leaders continued to speak at a joint press conference, where a number of agreements were formally signed between the two countries, including a Memorandum of Understanding (DoI) on migration and mobility, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in skills development, vocational training and entrepreneurship. of an energy policy dialogue at ministerial level between the two countries.
A total of nine agreements were exchanged between the two countries.
In the evening, Modi also spoke to the members of the Indian diaspora in Copenhagen with the Danish Prime Minister in company.
More than 1,000 members of Indian society in Denmark consisting of students, researchers, professionals and business people attended the event according to an MEA statement.
Modi also attended a dinner hosted by the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark, Margrethe II, at the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, which was the last item on Prime Minister Modi’s agenda on the second day of his visit.
