maximum commitment to guarantee more and more structures and sporting events in Riccione in the coming years
“The fact that the Italian Federation has chosen Riccione and the former Reggiana colony as the basis for an avant-garde sailing center is proof of the great work done in recent years – comments Stefano Caldari, Councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Riccione and candidate for mayor civic center right to administrative authorizations -. This is just the beginning of a journey, though. Sport is an extraordinary lever of growth for our young people and healthy and positive aggregation for adults and the elderly. Not only from the point of view of physical health, but also of social integration and sharing. This is why we must continue with even greater commitment, if possible, on the path we have taken ”. The redevelopment project of the former Reggiana colony, which dates back to 1934, is one of the most relevant for the future of sport in Riccione, it will in fact be the first large sports oasis directly on the beach, dedicated to nautical and water sports, in their declination at sea. : sailing, surfing, diving, kite surfing, stand up paddle (Sup), Kayaking, water skiing, diving, snorkeling, flyboard. The project involved the Italian National Sailing Federation which will make it one of the main offices in Italy with an important impact on the tourism sector. “A project of great importance for the whole territory that brings the city of Riccione back to its vocation for water sports and in particular for sailing, of which it was in the past an international point of reference” – adds Caldari. A multifunctional space, therefore, which will be totally recovered to accommodate various services, from functions dedicated to sports activities mainly nautical and marine and related services such as (administrative offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, gyms), but also catering, cafeteria, small accommodation and equipment compatible with bathing. Attention also to the use by people with disabilities “because sport is first of all inclusion”, underlines Caldari, and to the protection of the natural environment with large green spaces close to the dunes. The redevelopment of the Reggiana is part of a broad long-term vision that includes the redevelopment of the Marano district and the development of the port to also host sailing regattas. In short, a pole of attraction for the many fans of these sports who can find state-of-the-art services and facilities here, guaranteeing excellent repercussions, including economic ones, on all the tourism and hospitality industries. According to the data of a recent study by the University of Bologna, in 2021 with 8 months of sporting events organized in Riccione with the patronage of the municipality and the collaboration of Promohotels and the hotels of the Riccione Sport Consortium, the induced exceeded 30 million euro, 12 million on the hotel sector alone.
