Hammarby sports manager talks about Celtic scouting trip in Sweden
Hammarby sports director Jesper Jansson has said that Celtic “definitely” has an interest in left-back Mohanad Jeahze.
Expressen reports that Hoops sent representatives to see the Iraqi national team player in action for the Swedish club on Monday night. He was in the 0-0 decision against Malmö, and was stuck in 68 minutes.
This was stated by the Swedish newspaper last week that Celtic could recruit the player for as little as 1.6 million pounds. With his contract expiring in December 2023, it is reasonable to say that it is no major surprise.
And although Jansson tried to keep his cards close to his chest, he slipped that there is a definite interest in the player when asked about the Celtic speculations:
Speaking with Expressen’s Anel Avdic, Jansson said: “Nothing new. I know nothing more than what is written in the media. There is certainly an interest but I have not heard anything. “
Celtic want to strengthen their team this summer ahead of their likely UCL campaign should they end the Premier League title in the next three matches.
Jesper Jansson acknowledges Celtic interest
So now we not only have a Swedish newspaper that reports a Celtic scouting trip, but also Hammarby’s sports director who admits that there is interest in his players. It’s starting to get pretty clear that Hoops is really looking at this.
It has been reported by Athletic that the left-back is one of the positions Celtic are looking to strengthen this summer. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what other alternatives the club is looking at as well as Jeahze.
Vänsterbacken is certainly a weak position in the club when it comes to the quality required. If we just kept our options as they are, you would feel that it would be far too easy to exploit at the UCL level. Let’s not forget how easily Ola Solbakken showed Greg Taylor and Liam Scales in the Europa Conference League clash with Bodo / Glimt.
Celtic’s goal in the UCL next season must simply be to compete. We do not want to enter the competition just to be cannon fodder for Europe’s biggest and worst. We want to get some of our own kind. To do so will certainly require some reinforcement.
But it’s not just the left – back position that Hoops needs to focus on. We are still light when it comes to aggression in midfield while we still need consistent competition for Liel Abada on the far right. Meanwhile, another midfielder would not go wrong either.
For now, however, the main focus is to cross the finish line and win the title.
