Government will leave OKP state contribution 2023 at CHF 33 million – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – At its meeting on Tuesday, the government referred the report and application regarding the state contribution to the costs of compulsory health insurance for the other insured persons for 2023 to the state parliament. Health care costs increased by 2.4 percent in 2021.
The Health Insurance Act (KVG) stipulates that the state covers 90 percent of the national average costs of compulsory health care insurance for children and makes a contribution to the high-cost insurance for the other insured persons. Depending on the legal basis, the government is applying for the state contribution to determine the costs of the other insured persons for the assessment year 2023 at CHF 33 million.
The state contribution thus remains compared to the previous year and therefore has no influence on the premium, the employer contribution and the premium reduction for low-income insured persons.
The total costs of compulsory health insurance rose by 2.4 percent in the 2021 financial year. According to information from the government, the costs for outpatient hospital treatment, treatment by doctors, services by physiotherapists and masseurs and home nursing organizations have grown above average.
Rising healthcare costs
In the previous year, the outpatient services were not costly, which can be seen as an indication that this range of services was only used to a limited extent at times due to the Covid 19 pandemic. As it seems, certain catch-up effects are visible here in 2021, the government emphasized in its release. The laboratory costs fell in 2021, which is partly due to the fact that the costs for tests for SARS-CoV-2 were borne directly by the State of Liechtenstein from the second quarter of 2021.
The development of the Covid-19 pandemic will also become the health costs of the year, according to the government
significantly influence 2022. The cost implications cannot be estimated at this time. Nevertheless, it is important to continue the efforts in the planned on affordable premiums.
