Embezzlement: Conditional detention for bank employees
court
Ten months imprisonment – suspended on probation, that is the final verdict against a bank employee. The Pinzgauer stood before the Salzburg regional court on Wednesday. He embezzled 162,000 euros of customer money.
The convict apologized in tears in court. His behavior is inexplicable to him. According to the indictment, the man crossed out a zero on a receipt and collected the difference himself. He was actually supposed to be the new chief of his Pinzgau home community. He now had to retrain as a truck driver because many no longer want to have anything to do with him. Mountain rescue and the fire brigade also ruled him out, they say.
Instead of 90,000 only 9,000 euros transferred
The 27-year-old is also said to have forged a donation contract to justify how he suddenly got 162,000 euros.
The actual crime: Shortly before Christmas, the young man was supposed to transfer 90,000 euros in cash twice from a safe deposit box to an account for a customer. However, he only transferred 9,000 twice, but he always had a zero dash at the end of the sum. A rather transparent maneuver that the customer immediately noticed. The bank employee was fired and admitted to the crime before the trial.
“It was a knee-jerk reaction”
He describes it as a knee-jerk reaction because the opportunity presented itself.
He quickly pays back the missing money. Ten months’ probation for embezzlement are very mild, said the judge responsible – because the accused paid back the money immediately. And that is rare.
