The European League, which, with other names, began to be played in 1981/82, has two Portuguese teams in the final-four in four seasons: Porto in 2018/19 and Benfica this year.
Before that, only one Portuguese team had foreseen a semi-final, or only one Portuguese team ABC, in 1999/200, having been removed by Flensburg, in 1999/200.
That is, for 38 seasons, this presence was registered by Braga, a club that at that time was very strong in Europe – played in the final of the Champions League in 1993/94. In this first period of four years, FC Porto and now Ben are present in the decision phase in a competition space.
A clear sign of the growth of handball in Portugal, which also has results in the National Team. After 14 years without any presence in major competitions, he was in the 2020 European, 2021 World Cup, 2020 Olympic Games, European this year and has already qualified for the 2023 World Cup.
It should also be noted that this year Portugal organizes the European Under-20 Championship and 2028, the European Championship with Spain, the European Championship for seniors in men.
