Law students in Montenegro learn about the European Convention on Human Rights and the Court in Strasbourg
the HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) The online course on Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) was launched in Montenegro on April 27, 2022. The course takes place in the framework of the Human Rights Legal Clinic and will be attended by 50 law students from three law faculties in Montenegro (University of Montenegro, Donja Gorica University, University of the Mediterranean).
This online HELP course aims to help students understand the ECHR system and how the ECHR works. Topics are explored in a hands-on manner, using presentations, interactive screens, knowledge tests and brainstorming exercises. The course consists of two parts: the substantive modules and the final assessment.
A certified tutor will guide students through the course modules, ensuring that they are able to recognize the relevance of the direct implementation of human rights standards at the national level, and automatically link the national case law to the possible implementation of the ECHR. Students who pass the final assessment will receive the course certificate of completion.
The course has been developed within the framework of the European Program of Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) of the Council of Europe, using the HELP methodology.
The implementation of the course within legal clinics of human rights in Montenegro was organized within the framework of the action “Improving procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings in Montenegro“, which is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe program “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
