Beja to host I Congress Portugal Nuts
Beja to welcome, this Tuesday, May 3rd, the I Congress Portugal Nuts.
The event is organized by chestnuts from Portugal, Nuts Promotion Association that recently started its activity.
The Congress takes place at the Pax Julia Teatro Municipal, during the morning, and according to the organization it has more than 300 participants.
The start is made with a study authored by Frutos Secos, by Tiago Costa, president of Portugal Nuts.
Three separate sessions follow. The first is dedicated to the theme “The Impact of the Nut Sector on the Portuguese Economy”, the second focuses on “Environmental and Social Sustainability of Nuts” and the third has as its motto “International Markets for Nuts”.
Sónia Reis, High Commissioner for Migration, Ondina Afonso, president of the Sonae Producers Club, Assunção Cristas, professor at Universidade Nova, José Pedro Salema, president of EDIA and Nuno Lacasta, president of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Environment Agency are some of the speakers.
The Association’s objective is “the study, experimentation, demonstration and dissemination of cultural practices to the national reality of the dried fruit orchard of its members”.
According to the same source, it also intends to promote “the defense and representation of the interests of associates with all entities, official or private, national or international”.
Currently, Portugal has added 40 members and 1,000 are represented, around 1 hectares.
