50 years of the Slovenian association Simon Gregorčič in Sweden
At the end of April 2022, the Slovenian community Simon Gregorčič from Köping, Sweden, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Köping is an industrial city with about 18,000 inhabitants 150 km west of Stockholm, where most Slovenes came in the 1960s.
At the invitation of the Slovenian Society from Köping, Ambassador Edvin Skrt participated in the event and emphasized that the Slovenes are an integral part of the Slovenian nation. He praised the preservation of Slovenian identity, customs and especially the Slovenian language. He expressed hope that Slovenes in Sweden would continue to maintain ties with each other and with Slovenia, and offered further support from the embassy and the Slovenian government.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Sweden, the Ambassador thanked all those who in 1991 actively advocated the recognition of Slovenia by Sweden and for each contribution from individuals to strengthen the ties between friendly countries.
The ambassador presented the association and its chairman Alojz Macuh with awards from the Office for Slovenes Abroad. He also awarded a recognition prize from the embassy.
There are nine Slovenian associations in Sweden, which are affiliated under the Slovenian Association in Sweden.
