District of Berchtesgadener Land: SPD Berchtesgadener Land as a guest at the May Festival in Salzburg
The SPD Berchtesgadener Land was able to continue a small tradition on yesterday’s Labor Day: the local “Reds” were guests at the traditional May Day celebration of the FSG (Faction of Social Democratic Trade Unionists) in front of the Chamber of Labor in Salzburg and took the opportunity to meet with the Austrian colleagues about current topics.
The message in full:
district of Berchtesgadener Land – The new SPD circle Susanne Aigner, the spokesman for the SPD district parliamentary group Roman Niederberger and, in a dual function, the chairman of the SPD Piding and district chairman of the German Federation of Trade Unions Dieter Schaefer, after a two-year Corona break, set off again together with the S-Bahn to celebrate Labor Day across borders. “There are many issues that unite us and on which we, as Social Democrats, pull together,” say SPÖ state directors Gerald Forcher and Susanne Aigner with conviction. With the big task, a cross-border network for public transport, you will only make progress together.
The two trade unionists Dieter Schaefer and Hans-Peter Grandenti, Vice President of the Salzburg Chamber of Labour, agreed that cross-border cooperation is also becoming more important for the rights of employees. Even after Corona, the number of cross-border commuters whose place of residence and workplace differ between Bavaria and Salzburg is at a high level in the region: “This makes it clear that we also have common answers to questions such as affordable housing and employee-friendly solutions for the home office to need”.
The SPÖ and SPD will face similar challenges in the coming year: state elections will be held in Salzburg in spring, and the Bavarian state parliament will be re-elected in summer 2023. “In these turbulent and difficult times, we need a strong social democratic voice for our region on both sides of the border,” said SPÖ MPs Markus Maurer and Roman Niederberger. During the further cozy get-together at the FSG May Festival, everyone agreed in any case to revitalize the contact that had been somewhat sparse in the last two years, in order to move more on regional issues as well as in “big politics”.
