Deaths at work: Veneto on the emergency podium, Verona black jersey | TgVerona
There are 20 victims at work in the first three months in Veneto: 13 died “during work”, and 7 “in itinere”, that is, on the way from home to the workplace. Last year there were 14 in total. And the region is in 3rd place in the national ranking for the number of deaths from work (there are 138 throughout the country).
A disheartening place on the podium for the number of victims at national level that brings Veneto to the orange zone in the mapping of the Vega Engineering Safety Observatory in Mestre. Veneto, at the end of the first quarter, in fact leaves the yellow zone, i.e. the one that includes the regions with the lowest risk of mortality at work, according to the system of categories based on the incidence index, i.e. the ratio between accidents and the working population present in the area.
“We use the death rate index because it is the most effective investigation tool to explain the emergency – underlines Mauro Rossato, President of the Vega Engineering Safety Observatory in Mestre – the ratio between the number of accidents and the worker can define and reduce the safety level of workers, region by region, province by province. For this reason, we hope that this investigation method can be used more concretely and concretely to prevent fatal injuries precisely in the areas of the country where the risk of mortality is greater “.
To facilitate the reading of the data, the Mestre Observatory has devised and elaborated the mapping of the risk of death at work, dividing Italy in color just like the mapping used during the pandemic emergency. The orange zone, the one in which Veneto falls, is the band that – after the red one – groups the regions with the highest incidence for fatal accidents at work and therefore higher than the national average.
From January to March 2022, in fact, Veneto is one of the regions with an accident rate between the national average and the national average incidence, which stands at 1,000,000 employed. And Rovigo is the Veneto province in which workers risk the most (incidence index equal to 21.4 against a regional average of 6.1. Followed by: Verona (14.3), Venice (8.2), Vicenza (2 , 7), Padua (2,5).
As regards the number of deaths during work (there are 13) and are recorded in the province of: Verona (6), Venice (3), Rovigo (2), Padua and Vicenza (1). The province of Treviso holds the black jersey in the region for the highest number of total accident reports: 4,659. Followed by: Vicenza (4,537), Venice (4,463), Verona (4,229), Padua (3,671), Belluno (988) and Rovigo (942). Finally, there are 10,507 reports from working women and 12,982 from men.
