180 million francs are waiting in the Euro Millions jackpot. If you play along, you should look for a new place to live for tax reasons. The Jura is interesting, the canton of Geneva is outrageous
A whopping 180 million francs are waiting for you. This is how high the jackpot in Europe’s largest lottery is at the moment.
You only have to tick five numbers between 1 and 50 and two out of 12 star numbers correctly. Don’t say you don’t have a chance anyway.
Several Swiss people have already won hundreds of millions at Euro Millions. Last year one won a whopping 230 million.
If you can carry away that much money, it is worth moving to the cantons with the lowest tax rates, such as Zug, Obwalden and Nidwalden.
Example: If the lucky guy with the 230 million lives in the canton of Zurich, the tax office would have squeezed over 90 million from him. In the canton of Zug it would only have been 50 million.
The Jura is also interesting: Because lottery winnings in this canton have not fallen below income, “only” 50 million francs are also due for 230 million francs.
The canton of Geneva is outrageous: With such a large profit, it would snatch away over 100 million.
Several lottery winners moved to the canton of Zug last year. Councilor Heinz Tännler, Switzerland’s most successful finance director, recently told the NZZ: «These people naturally optimize their residence. That’s hefty tax revenue. We’re not talking about a million, you can add zeros to it.”
However, real estate in the canton of Zug is not exactly cheap: the current square meter price for houses or condominiums is around 13,000 Swiss francs.
Tip: if you win, keep it to yourself. Otherwise you will suddenly find out how many relatives you have.
I was once able to collect 120 francs from Euro Millions. I continued to live halfway normally so that the neighbors wouldn’t notice.
Note: The next drawing will take place on Tuesday evening.
