Eataly opens the Foundation for art in Verona Earth
It will find space in the former refrigeration station, the “icebox” of the former General Warehouses: it is a space of 13 thousand square meters of the fascist era that has seen an investment of 60 million for the redevelopment. The opening is scheduled for September 2022: there will be the classic Eataly store, but then also space for exhibitions and emerging artists
The food giant of excellence will open a new office in Verona, the first in Veneto. The news had already leaked last December, when the founder and leader of the company Oscar Farinetti he had given an anticipation of it by speaking in Cortina D’Ampezzo at the exhibition A mountain of books. The big news? The space reserved for art, which will be inserted exclusively in the Veronese reality of Eataly through a project called Land managed by the Eataly Foundation and temporary exhibitions held in collaboration with a plurality of partners but always managed by the new vehicle created within Eataly. After all, each Eataly is dedicated to a theme. “Verona will be dedicated to art, but it will be a huge blow”, Farinetti declared on that occasion. “I respect chains like McDonalds and Starbucks, but I don’t love them. They are all places where you don’t understand what place in the world you are. Our Eatalys have those three or four basic same things, but they have a specific value. In New York we have ‘doubt’, in Stockholm the theme of bridges. Trieste has the Bora, in Verona there will be art“.
THE EATALY FOUNDATION FOR ART
There are still many details to be defined regarding the new Eata headquarters despite the opening of Sicini: it is scheduled for 22 September 2022. It was discussed again on the occasion of the visit of Federico Sboarina, mayor of Verona, who went to the construction sites to view the end of the restoration that involved the former refrigeration station in via Santa Teresa, the “icebox” of the former General Warehouses, an example of industrial archeology dating back to 1930 where the shopping center will be built. A special path will be dedicated to the story of the icebox, to allow visitors to get to know it, which involves the territory closely. But that’s not all: the building (it will measure 13 thousand square meters of space in), which has seen an investment of 60 million euros for the redevelopment and the provision of technological standards, will host a museum area with traveling exhibitions on the upper floor. and will culminate in the central space of the dome, whose newly completed project is entrusted to the architect Mario Botta. Events and exhibitions related to art and culture will therefore accompany the store dedicated to food and catering, with spaces dedicated to emerging artists and big names, according to the earliest rumors. The project will see the participation of well-known cultural curators and managers. But to know their names we will have to wait for the closing of the contracts, as well as the sending of official communications. Immediately after, the interviews on Artribune.
