May 1st a day for reflection
The main issues on which USL wants to reflect on the occasion of May Day are work and peace: indeed “work for peace” recalling the title of the unitary trade union demonstration to be held in Assisi. To make our future uncertain, first the pandemic, which in two years has granted very few truces, has brought numerous companies and sectors to their knees, which have only partially been able to recover and now the fear of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with undoubted planetary economic and geopolitical consequences. Today, May 1st, we recall the value of work: a primary value, a source of dignity and enrichment of the individual, the community and the environment, the cornerstone of society, the essential foundation of civil life. Work synonymous with stability and safety. War is instability, uncertainty, destruction, horror, denial of rights, gods and freedoms. It is essential that all commitments are fundamental to favor the cessation of hostilities: “living in peace is a fundamental and inalienable right of all people, affirm the USL General Secretary Giacomini” and peace, justice and democracy are based on work . On a work that ensures and supports a free and dignified existence everywhere and for all persons, peoples and generations “. It will be another tough year for the economy. What we have before us is an unprecedented scenario that requires a serious reflection on what political and financial countermeasures can be to stimulate an economic recovery that until a few months ago seemed within reach. USL is fully aware that numerous economic and social effects should be addressed and resolved, also seen as heavy on the cost of raw materials and energy, which are causing a further slowdown accompanying economic growth, rising prices and a weighs mainly on wages. The imperative is that at the center of the country’s policies there are these problems as well as the urgency to renew expired contracts, hoping that the signing of the industrial sector contract can serve as a recovery for the economy. If we don’t do something we risk having a very serious social crisis. In this regard, USL has decided to, starting from May 1st, the e-mail [email protected], dedicated to all workers and citizens who want to discuss and give suggestions on everything that is inherent in the world of San Marino work, on the theme of peace, on the growth of the country, on the objective difficulties created by the reduction of purchasing power: a further direct interactive tool with the people to face and solve problems in an even more precise way. Reflections and proposals in the name of concreteness that, in this particular historical period, can represent a point of reference for the trade union that today more than ever must listen to the citizens who are inevitably disoriented by the current scenario. The most significant proposals will also be mentioned in the course of the USL Congress to be held in July 2022. We give voice to our expectations and hopes for a world where peace, equality and the right to work are not a mirage but a certainty.
