Media – Cologne – Tom Beck sees “a knack for winding” – Bavaria
Cologne (AP) – actor Tom Beck (“Alarm for Cobra 11”, “Einstein”) gives himself a very passable testimonial when changing diapers. “My son is two and a half. We try not to divide the father’s work and the mother’s work,” the 44-year-old told the German Press Agency about family life. “Funnily enough, he’s actually asking me to wrap him,” Beck said. Only recently did grandma want to change his diaper – but no chance. It was asked for papa. “I seem to be doing quite well,” concluded Beck. “I seem to have a knack for diapering.”
Beck can currently be seen in a special father role. In the series “Friedmanns Vier”, which has been running on Vox since Wednesday and is available on RTL+, he plays Mischko Friedmann, who loses his wife in a tragic accident. From now on he has to look after the three children Maya, Tilda and Carla alone.
“It’s a life-affirming series, even if it has a tragic starting point,” said Beck. “Mischko Friedmann has to see how he, as a single father, can cope with the loss of his wife and the mother of his children. He’s faced with quite a few problems.”
In reality, he tries to reflect on his own upbringing style. “Your own father is of course the first role model that you think of when you become a father yourself. I’m trying to actively reflect on that and see if there are things I want to do the same or differently,” he said native of Nuremberg. He tries to look left and right in parenting. “It’s also different from Mischko Friedmann. He can hardly be talked into it.”
But he doesn’t really care which path his little son takes professionally. “Of course one wishes that he wouldn’t become a complete stray who is still dependent on his parents at the age of 30. But how he shapes his life, what philosophy of life he develops – that should be up to him.” If an existence as a tax specialist makes him happy, then he is welcome to become one. “But if he says he wants to be an actor or a musician, I’m happy too,” said Beck. “Because that’s probably the only thing I really know about.”
